Investing in a heat pump is usually done when we know the benefits they can give us. We install it in the hopes that it will give us a decade or more of energy-efficient comfort and give us the kind of service we need and want. We cannot achieve that kind of comfort, however, if we only rely on the system itself. It takes more than just choosing an affordable heat pump that suits our budget and liking and installing them to where we want them to be. Installing a heat pump requires enough attention to avoid potential problems that may come with the poor installation.
Heat pumps are great in contributing warm air to keep us warm during cold and chilly days. It also keeps the atmosphere cool and refreshing. Whenever the weather gets too cold, we can rely on heat pumps to pump up the heat and give us the warmth we need indoors to help keep us cozy and heated and when the weather takes a turn and gets hot, the heat pump would be able to absorb the heat from inside and give us a cooler feel. Its purpose is to help keep the ambiance of the room temperature which would suit the needs of the human body.
A minor difference in your HVAC system’s efficiency may mean that there is something wrong with your system. This may result in a major discrepancy in your system’s performance and long-term utility costs and its longevity may be at stake. No matter how high the efficiency rate of your heat pump is, if it is not installed properly, it will still contribute to the significant increase in your utility costs as it may not reach its full performance potential, hindering it to operate at full efficiency.
Prepare for Installation Carefully
Before you have the system sized, reduce your home’s heating and cooling load by sealing air leaks around doors and windows with weatherstripping and caulk. Add insulation to the attic if necessary. Also consider upgrading to Energy Star-certified windows. If you’re having new ducts installed, keep as many as possible within your home’s insulation and air barrier. This means not installing ducts in an uninsulated area such as the attic. If ducts are installed outside the insulation barrier, use batt insulation or duct wrap to insulate them to R-8 level.
To ensure good airflow, request registers in every room and check that air from all your rooms can easily reach a return air grille. This may require adding return ducts or installing grilles in the walls or doors between rooms. Ask your contractor to ensure less than 10 percent air leakage from the ducts. With care, less than 5 percent is possible. After installation, your contractor should check the system’s refrigerant charge. A heat pump that contains even 15 percent more or less refrigerant than the manufacturer recommends won’t run as efficiently as possible.

In times when we feel hot or cold, HVAC systems are there to help us cope up with the temperature of our surroundings. It is for this reason that we need to keep in mind that their condition is just as important as the benefits they give us.
Always remember to change the filters regularly. They should be changed at least every three months or better yet every 30 days and checked monthly. To make sure that your air is blowing well, cool or warm with respect to the thermostat, check first if the filter is in good condition and check if there are no vents closed.
Additional Costs
You think you have the right tools. You’re not concerned about the safety issues because you’ll take your time and be careful. Have you thought about how expensive a mistake could be? When a HVAC professional gets it wrong, you aren’t responsible for the cost to fix it. When you work on your own air conditioner or heat pump, you are. If you connect the wrong parts, you could blow your condenser, easily the most expensive piece of equipment.
Voiding Your Warranty
Depending on the system you have and how old it is, it may still have some warranty left on it. Read the fine print of your warranty agreement. There’s a good chance that regular maintenance and repairs by a HVAC professional are required to make sure your warranty remains valid. Deciding to make one small repair yourself could ruin your chances of having big repairs done at little to no cost to you before your warranty expires.
Temperatures may be unpredictable at the moment and we are worried about its effects on our health, but HVAC systems will provide us with the right amount of heat or coolness when the breezes will set in as the season slowly changes.
